Stroll through Old (Vieux) Montreal
What better way to immerse yourself in the beautiful culture of the city than to start your morning with a walk through Old Montreal! With the crisp April morning air blowing on our faces, we set out to enjoy a beautiful stroll through 'Vieux' Montreal. Brick walls, classy historic buildings, horse-drawn carriages, and bustling cafes- our time spent was such a treat!
We loved the Old Montreal stretch so much that we used every opportunity during our short 2 day trip to visit and re-visit the area :)
Don't forget to walk up to the Notre-Dame Basilica, located on Notre-Dame St. West in Old Montreal, for an experience that is out of this world! More on this below:)
Visit Montreal's Stunning Churches
With our jaws wide open, we stood dumbstruck by the mystical wonders of Montreal's churches. We only managed to see two of these stunning monuments, but definitely have many more chalked out for our future visits. Be sure to take your time to appreciate these beautiful man made wonders!
Mary Queen of the World Cathedral- Built in a Neo-Renaissance style, this cathedral is a modest replica of the St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
This was the first cathedral that we visited during our trip, and we were definitely not disappointed. The interiors were so stunning and I must say- our photographs don't do justice to the beauty of this place!
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal
There are no words to describe the vista inside this church.
With some of the finest Gothic Revival architecture in North America, the ambience at Notre Dame Basilica will teleport you to a totally different world! The church has undergone many phased renovations and reconstructions, especially after a fire destroyed the chapel that existed in it's place in December 1978. With elements of traditional Gothic design of English churches and inspiration from the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, the structure that is seen today is apparently very different from the original church that existed in the past.
We were lucky to visit these majestic twin towers on Easter Sunday. The sound of the church bells filled the air in Vieux Montreal, inviting us to come and take a peek at the beauty behind the tall doors.
The vibrant tones of blue and gold and the natural light enhancing the hues of this masterpiece, the high vaulted ceilings, the majestic organ, the Gothic wall art, the ornate stairways, and the light show inside the church- what a visual treat to say the least!
As I gaped at the art work that surrounded me and admired the peaceful candles, I felt like I could definitely spend a lifetime inside this chuch, enjoying my personal zen time!
